But seriously, let's do this. It's for a good cause. Help buy a former Marine his dream car, and we can ride share. Just allow to me to pay it off the books so I can keep it from my wife that i didn't buy her Audi wagon for her first.
She wants this:
Before I can get this:
Also, I see you brakes, you doing yo thang.

"Help buy" and "loan" are two very different things...

I can pay you in under the table money, corporate IT support, and certified and well-researched personal training. I would personal train on the side of my job, but I just moved to a new area and would just be starting out with no clientele.

Ha you're right. I'm just messing around, just wish moving to a new city and general adulthood wasn't so expensive. If I didn't inherit someone else's debt I would be able to get an extremely low rate on a loan and would be heading to east Tennessee to pick it up with a check in hand this weekend. Love will make you do some stupid shit.

I can't help but feel partially responsible for this...
That being said, I will donate $5 to the "Buy R Saldana an E39 M5" fund.
Also, thanks for your service!

12k isnt that much.... buy a isht box right now and drive it into the ground. Save those pennies, and you'll get something you want later. I bought my dream car and had a blast... I bought a house and nearly lost my shirt, so sold the car to cover it. Nearly 7 years later, I own that very car again.

Both options are great choices, although I think the back seats in the wagon are just a little too small for me. The 5 Series is probably just about right back there. (I have a kid and one on the way, so this is important)

Just for curiosity, what did you buy?
![]() 07/02/2014 at 10:59 |

Well, we both have semi-reliable cars now. My "reliable" LR Disco 2 with many pieces of my skin as well as blood from wrenching on and removing the stock problem areas, and her truly reliable 95 Nissan 4x4 manual with 238k miles. We swapped ofr the time being as her work is less than a mile away from home and her truck gets better mileage. The e39 M5 is my legit dream car, and the Audi is for her. The goal is to buy her car first so I hear absolutely zero complaints about me then buying my dream car. We have no kids, but someone decided to go a prestige university and get a degree in sociology. Womp womp, cue up that sad trombone.

It is, but it's not an either/or situation. I will end up buying her the wagon, probably next year. And then the struggle to find an affordable e39 M5 at that point, which will be problematic as they will go up in value in the very near future no matter the problems or miles. I mean it is the greatest sports sedan ever made, and a true classic. I feel like when I am 50 and going to cars and coffee, this will be the Chevy Bel-Air/Chevelle/or what have you of my generation. This car as well as a well sorted Lr Disco are what I envision myself being if I were an Autobot transformer. Well dressed and professional, yet very capable and strong underneath the suit and tie.

Yep, our plan is to buy my wife her dream car when she graduates from Nursing school, and then I get whatever I want. Actually, our E46 will probably become hers and I'll buy something else. And we'll keep the CX-5 she drives now.

I recommended that CX-5 to my grandmother; she is looking for a new car to replace her Jeep GC. Lives almost in the UP, Michigan so she needs reliable AWD, and I don't think Jeep makes that anymore. I put my wife in the Disco because the Nissan is manual and doesn't have airbags, and gets better mileage since she does almost no driving to and from work (it's like a mile away from the house). Just sucks though, tightening my belt and cutting many expenses, still doesn't really help get you out from under the weight of student loans, even if you have a pretty decent income form your job. I'm seriously considering going back to Iraq as a contractor to make some scratch to pay off debt and save enough cash for a house and to go to medical school (after I use up my GI Bill for undergrad) without having to borrow anything.

We Oppos, ought to start a kickstarter fund for each other, and make the vehicles we buy tax write-offs and use them as our own version of the Make-a-Wish foundation. Holy shit that's a million dollar idea for a non-profit. What should we call it? We could have drifters, autocrossers, amateur racers, collectors, and all other variations of car lovers on tap to put smiles on sick kids faces. Hell even some sane clowns and their silly clown cars.

That's a great idea! I was actually just looking on http://www.gofundme.com/ specifically for you, but that's a better idea to be able to get the cars we want but also pay it forward to other people as well. I would certainly volunteer my car to give rides.

Also, the E60 M5 is my legitimate dream car. I drive a E60 535xi and I just need to make sure that's not the closest I get to an M5 of the same year.

Although I can't say much about the AWD (we have the FWD), the CX-5 has been VERY reliable. It also did relatively well in the snopocalypse we had this winter. We have had it for a little over a year and put about 30k miles on it with no major issues. We did have a transmission problem, but it was covered under warranty with no problems, and we haven't had any troubles with it since. Depending on your/her needs (navigation/tech package/leather), I would look at getting one a year or so old. We bought ours used with 11k miles fully loaded for about 3k under msrp. It has also maintained its value really well. Yea, unless you make a drastic change, or someone gets a massive raise, it's hard to make a dent in debt. We are planning on taking all of my wife's income when she graduates and putting all of it towards debt.

I seriously considered buying an 06 with 56k miles, SMG, aftermarket intakes and built in radar detector last summer. Could have got it from 27,900; but it sold before I had gathered the balls and money together and buy it. It was very fast, but missed something (manual IMHO). And it was such a nice place to be, I love when a car make draws you inside it, and then drives you to go see new places. Land Rovers do this for me and so do pre-f10 M5's. It is something about the windows, the amount of greenhouse to solid body construction.

Probably, needs nav. I haven't seen my grandmother and grandfather (who partially raised me) in a little over 10 years. I've been traipsing all over the world for the last decade. My wife and I are heading there to see them for Labor Day. And about the finance stuff, I would genuinely suggest investing a $100 on Dave Ramsey's program. I didn't really have any concept of how to handle debt, except pay the minimum and save until you have the full amount in cash to pay it off, pay it off in full and then suffer and live paycheck to paycheck until you have it paid off. Wish I'd been more educated (read, lazy, I was lazy and didn't learn about saving properly duringmy active duty years) before I became a civilian again.

I wonder what kind of infrastructure you would need to begin a startup like that. Insurance of course. What else?

I'm not sure. You would probably have to approach it like starting a business.

Also, I can provide compensation for moneys in tactical Close Quarters Combat, rifle and pistol marksmanship courses, tactical driving (Personal Security Detail driving), combat first aid, leadership, hmmm what else let me pull out my resume........

We think alike. My 535 has a tune from Burger that takes the power safely to 370ish without any other supporting mods. Complete sleeper and handling dream. It's a great choice.

I love subtle power. I love the idea of being quiet and yet being able to crush souls and rip outs spines with my power. I live want to live my life like Arnold in Commando, chill as can be, yet able to turn into Conan with rockets and guns in a split second. Remember nobody suspect the Spanish Inquisition!

I'm a scooby fan. I bought a 2005 Sti new off the lot (first and last new car), and bought it back again just before christmas. Its super practical and a 90% car... eg, its now faster than 90% of cars on the road :) With the smaller wing and roof rack its a nice sleeper as well.

Very nice! Any pictures? Also, why first and last new car? Depreciation?
![]() 07/02/2014 at 12:06 |

No pictures on this computer, sorry. Last new car because of depreciation. I had no idea what is was when I was younger... I bought the car and pumped a ton of money into it and sold it for pennies. It came back around when I bought the car for pennies (although, it needs work) so I'm ok with it. But I LOVED the car, and always swore I'd own another.... I had no idea I'd be able to own the very one :)

No problem. I've decided I won't buy another 100% new car again either. Instead of buying new, we bought a "used" CX-5 with 11k miles for $3-4k less than new msrp. That's awesome that you got the car back!

yea, I'll shop used from now on. That is, unless I become incredibly wealthy and order a 911 Gt3 the way I want it.... lol... like that will ever happen. All the stars aligned to bring that car back to me. Now I just need to make it exactly what I want :)

I'm not trying to fuck everyone, man. I theoretically, genuinely only want to brighten peoples lives with cars, primarily Oppos and maybe some sick kids, who like burnouts and speed (not the drug)
